Although I am not a big hamburger eater, now and then I prepare it at home. I rarely order it in a restaurant. I don’t have a good relationship with ground meat unless I know where the meat comes from. And you know I am surprised I am posting a hamburger here, but I figured that I made it so why not take a few pictures, after all they are good burgers.
It is easy to make hamburgers; not many ingredients are needed but let’s face it, the magic of the hamburger is the meat. Buy the best meat you can afford- no hormone or additives added if it is grass fed even better. Most people relate ground meat to poor quality and to a certain extent they are right due to the fact that common supermarket grounded meat comes from the less desirable cut of meat.
Then comes the seasoning; I choose a good salt, kosher, pink or sea salts and fresh grounded pepper and that is it for me. I added some diced onions and garlic just because I am addicted to these ingredients and because onions and grounded beef mingle together nicely. I then finished the patties with a few drops of lime juice and a few drizzles of olive oil.
Serve the burgers with plain American rolls or sourdough bread as I like mine. The garnishes are endless; they are basic and familiar fresh red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and avocado; a little bit more of salt and pepper if needed. A beer or a glass of wine is good, or water.

Depending where you are or what time of the year, I for some reason always crave a hamburger in the summer. At this time of the year when fresh tomatoes and fresh produces are everywhere is when I normally make them. The bright sweet-tanging juices of the summer tomatoes, with fresh vegetable, or fresh lettuce bring the whole burgers experience to a new level. Really, burgers are a no brainer but in the summer when everyone is grilling barbecue on their yards or patios, us living in apartments building communities opt to make burgers on a cast-iron pan or griddle.
I love my cast iron pan as I know I am a cast iron girl. Anyways, make the best out of your homemade hamburgers, but whatever you do don’t overwhelm them. A good hamburger is about the meat, this is the specific here and the focus of attention. The other ingredients are to complement the flavor of the meat and not to hide or kill it. So choose your condiments always with the meat in mind. Enjoy!

I Know! My American Italian Husband loves meat and burgers are part of his upbringing. I like a burger from time to time, but really it is not my thing- I am the cook so if I don’t like something much I do not keep it on mind. And when I make them my husband is a happy fellow…lol.

Thanks to you, I’m now craving a burger. I hardly ever order burgers in restaurants… too easy to make them at home. And yes, quality meat.
